I've  thought this over for a while and figure it's time to put my cards on the table. In previous posts we've muddled over how to increase and entice new shooters and membership. Many have offered some valid suggestions and I have tried to persuade this enlightened group that our new and improved " Journal " stands as a perfect example of no better way to plead our case and inform other shooters

I for one lack the shooting credentials to play man for man with most of you guys. I'm orthopedically challenged to the degree I honestly couldn't man a spotting scope but I'm still a full time follower and addicted to the NEW journal and the page to page chronicling of Schuetzen history, the people who made the sport and the rifles and equipment used.

So under the efforts of Joe Dobrzynski who has single handed compiled a magazine on high quality gloss paper, historic and well written submissions by articulately researched writers and lots of supporting old photos. This Journal is a real treasure for the ASSRA and if my opinion means squat it's not being supported like it should be. The costs of materials, the hours expended by Joe to ferret out writers, photos and the process of printing and distributing the Journal is substantial.

Okay you've read my pitch but my point is that we members are getting a freebie. So if the members
here agree with my assessment I honestly feel they should be financially supporting Joe's work. It could be as easy as checking a payment box on your renewal letter signifying your are willing to pay a bit more to receive a high class publication like the Journal. I subscribe to lots of magazines and those that are comparable generally cost, at minimum, $5.00.  Think about it

There is a 'donate here' button on the ASSRA home page ( (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)) if someone wants to make a voluntary donation.  If the organization needs more $$$ to cover the journal why not just raise the membership price by 2 or 3 dollars.
