Catarac Fix, Now Cant Use Iron Sights??

Had eye fixed, now cant focues at 100yds. Seems like eye wants to focus on sight instead of down range at target. I will have to get them drilled for scopes or send them down the road. I,am 83, tried different glasses nothing seems to work

Have you discussed this with the doctor who did your surgery?

My Optometrist wrote a me prescription that the Ophthalmologist used to do my cataract surgery. One eye now focus's close,  the other eye focus's far.   My Optometrist said my eyes were already partially like that anyway.

When we discussed it I told him I was a shooter and was having issues with iron sights.   He said the script for cataract surgery would take care of that.  And because he wrote a prescription for correction it would be covered by Insurance.  It was.

The Optometrist said I may need glasses for hand work...otherwise I no longer wear glasses.  I did get the glasses. Wife says they make me look cute--at  78 that's not a vital criteria.  However I do wear them for her when she wants to show off her trophy husband-like when we went to her high school class 60th reunion.   Grin

I had the multifocal lenses put in. Biggest problem I've found is all of my rifles and handguns the zero windage needed adjustment.
Might just be in your case that you need to retrain your eye now that it can see again.

I had cataract surgery done in both eyes 2 years ago.  I am 77 and it is no cure all for your eye sight.  I still wear trifocals like I did before surgery.  Some eye problems are not corrected by the surgery.  Saying that, I can still use peep sights to my satisfaction.  I get my eyes checked every year and they do change.  Maybe not what you wanted to hear but that is my experience.  Charlie

Wow, hope you find a solution. I had cataract surgery in 2019 with astigmatism correction. I use irons now, both to hunt and target shoot. I have always enjoyed iron sights much more than a scope. I am 82.

Curious, is your rear apparatuses adjustable? You maybe getting to much light with those new clear lenses! If you do close it up slowly and see if it helps

I had cataract surgery in both eyes in 2020. I chose to *not* be corrected to 20/20 as I need glasses for too many things like running machine shop equipment, weed wackers, chainsaws and the like. I learned even with 20/20 I would need readers for close work. Due to the above I chose near perfect rather than perfect sight. I figured if I needed to carry glasses(readers) I might as wear them instead of misplace them like so many of my friends. They never seem to have them when they need them for menus and the like. “They’re in the car”, lol. As it is, I can do anything within arms length without correction and see clearly, reading included. Being solid plastic, your new permanent lenses only focus to the value of their correction like a fixed power telescope, where your eyes with natures own lenses were flexible and variable.

I had my eyes corrected for far vision but nothing was crystal clear so I had glasses that the focal length varies so that the bottom of the lens is best for close and the top of the lens was good for distance. After a year I discussed the glasses with the doctor and he told me to go with a smaller lens than I had so I didn't have to move my head much to go from near to far.  Works far better and I use the original pair for my spare and for working in dusty conditions.  Tom

I wear lined trifocals,
My current problem is getting a scrip that is clear at all three focal planes.
I have explained to the doctor my issue and even gave him a chart describing the problem for clarity from each eye identifying the focal lens problem at each distance for each eye. .

I think what may be happening, which may help others with the same issue, is that when a script is written for each eye, the intermediate focal plane is a generic uniform percentage of the the distance or the reading distance or a prescribed number at the requested distance.

Well no.. Full stop ... For me that percentage is not the same for each eye.

So when I need a clear image at 24" for my computer screen (intermediate lens) they can't seem to get it straight.

Going back again today for another refraction script.
Oh and if they dilate your eyes for an exam of the internals of your eye and then expect to do a refraction, I have to tell them I'll come back because the drops they apply for the exam is problematic.

FWITW, I'd wear glasses even if they were able to give me 20/20 with surgery. I can't say the number of times eye glasses protected my eyes from flying debris, bugs etc.

Have you tried the black disk with a small hole in front of your glasses?  It will  help focus at distances.

I got Toric distance lenses. Have to use bifocals to see close. Can see iron sights and targets perfectly. No need for adjustable eye pieces now. Had heard, for seeing clearly with iron sights the distance lenses were best.

Westerner, have you tried it on a bright day to see if it still helps to reduce the excess light
