Clerke Rifles
Apr 26th, 2026 at 6:58pm
Print Post
I've acquired several Clerke rifles from the early Hi-Wall Armory style and the later 1972 version.  Most are in need of parts which of course are not available unless someone is holding a stashof leftovers.

Best solution would be to fin complete versions of both so I could duplicate the needed parts.

If anyone knows of eiither model being available for sale or of a source of stashed parts please let me know.

Thanks

Andre`

I have a Clerke action and butt stock, built by Pingry, that I could let go of for $800.

That's a variation of the Clerke I do not have.  Wonder if the internals are the same as any I have here?

This is a picture of my other Clerke, that I bought in '85 and a '72 ad.

There is a historical (not very technical) article that covers "Bo" Clerke and the variations of his single shot rifle in the Single Shot Rifle Journal, Nov-Dec 2023.

The last two pictured are two of the models I have.  None of mine have the "flared" receiver front like the one Frank posted.

If the internals of his were the same as either of the other two I would be most interested.

Of course I could have some other mfgs version of the "1885" as well.

I haven't had the DST one apart but, I don't see any difference in the external mechanisms. The other one I had apart many times, as it was my first SS target rifle and it is basically a coil spring HW w/o many internal changes.

IMO, the basic difference between the original HW and the Clerke, is that the Clerke will handle bigger cartridges and take more pressure. Arguably, they could be the strongest of the single shots, at least the ones based on traditional. Much stronger than the CPA's.

Only two are serial numbered.  They are 2341 and 2344

Picture would help identify them. How is yours marked?

This is how my single trigger is marked.

Note, that they were also made w/o tangs.

no markings on the serial numbered receivers. Four of the others are marked Hi-wall Armory.  The remainder are unmarked but clearly Clerke mfg

Do all the frames have tangs? as I stated, he made them with and w/o tangs.

What criteria are you using to determining "clearly Clerke mfg".

Pictures would be very helpful.
