If I had a Ballard in .25 rim fire could it be sleeved in .22 and work? Or does something have to change on the breech block?
Thanks

Allegedly, the firing pin works but you will have to weld up the extractor and recut for the smaller case.

If it was originally a 22 and bored to 25 the block might work.
If it was originally a 32 and rebarreled to 25, it might work.
If it was originally a 32, changed to 25, the block will likely need to be replaced or altered to change to 22.

Then there is the extractor issue

It’s not likely it was originally a 25

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

If you find a Ballard in .25 RF it's either been bored out from .22 Long, or rebarreled. When the .25RF first came out the Ballard production had already ended, so none were ever made in .25RF.

I found a shot-out Ballard .22 that had been rebored by the Stevens Company to .25 Stevens rim fire (noted on the barrel by a stamping) and shot out again.  I got the barrel lined back to .22 (Long Rifle this time).  The same position of firing pin on the breechblock worked for both cartridges.

That is a well loved rifle.
