American Rifleman digital issue

I tried to read my now digital AMERICAN RIFLEMAN quarterly. I used to love getting my AMERICAN RIFLEMAN. The articles were in-depth and well written. I noticed the quality of the articles going down hill the last couple of years, to the point that I would just thumb through it, and read one or two of them per issue. The digital edition seems to have hit a new low. The few articles I thought I might be interested in were strictly fluff, the kind of stuff you'd expect from SHOOTING TIMES or GUNS AND AMMO. The writing was mediocre at best, and the articles contained no useful information. What a loss.

Agreed on the digital. I got my Lifetime membership in 1968 for $100 and I'm sure there must have been something good enough in the 560 some odd paper issues I received to make it worthwhile.

If you like reading their older articles this page has several. I've had a great time slowly going through them all:

Just for fun, I just pulled up the January issue of 1927 and leafed through a few pages until I got to page 17 where the article "The vibrations of rifle barrels" started. There are many pages in the article with some very interesting results from test instrument recordings or a wide variety of different rifle barrels. I just quickly skimmed a few pages. What it proved seems to be what we call barrel sweet spots today. I'm going to have to go back to it and read it completely. Thanks for posting the links. Nothing like that in the latest magazines.

Been a Life member since around 1980 and just got my paper copy of the May American Rifleman. Haven't seen a digital copy at all, and I thought the deal was paper copies would be quarterly and others in between would be monthly digital?
The May copy is pure crap. Dedicated to all sorts of brand new handguns and black rifles coming out this year. All the good writers got notices last fall to not send any more articles in to the NRA, so that's why the quality has gone even further downhill. It hasn't been that great for the last decade, and now it's much worse.

Received my printer copy the other day.  Had a chance to page through it. Had some good articles.  Seems to have more content than previously.  I think the restructuring will take time.
Yes, a lot on "black" rifles and pistols with picatinny rails, but that's the market today.  Look around and see what the "legend" manufactures are making.
I belong to the ASSRA for the single shot stuff.

Say what you like, but we would all be empty handed without them fighting for our 2nd AM Rights.

What are the Golden Eagles? I agree that we need the NRA. No other 2A organization teaches instructors, or safety classes, or holds matches. I wish that they would do more on promoting the shooting sports, like the used to.

NRA represents all shooters and has to cover the "mainstream" American gun owner, which is hunters, concealed carry and  home defense, gun collecting and occasionally some target shooting articles. As has been discussed in other threads here, us target shooters are in the minority of gun owners, so we really cant expect American Rifleman to cater to exactly what we like. I am satisfied with the print edition, and happy to see NRA make the effort to re-build after the LaPierre incident.
We either hang together or we hang separately.

I miss the old "Dope Bag"  segment of the magazine. And would like to see more in depth gunsmithing- shop work articles.

The NRA Golden Eagles is an exclusive, leadership-level donor program within the National Rifle Association (NRA) designed for dedicated members who provide significant financial support for2nd Amendment advocacy and legislative battles. Representing roughly 1% of the total membership, these supporters pay specialized dues to fund lobbying and "voice of freedom" campaigns against gun control, receiving special, limited-edition gear in return.

I am convinced that we would be in the same fix as other contries that DO NOT HAVE SOME FORM OF THE NRA. After the new laws in 1934 and 1968 it has been an on going battle with the Leftest portion of our Government that would like nothing more than a 100% Gun Ban. Even though there were questionable preactices inside the NRA I am convinced that has been corrected. There is no doubt about it, if not for the NRA there would be no gun related organizations or gun owenrship in the USA. Every NRA member needs to think about that and every gun owning person in our Country needs to think even more about. Time for Nonmembers to stop taking a free ride on the backs of dues paying NRA Members and start doing their part and pay their own dues if they do actually want to keep their guns.

I agree 100 %.  I don't mess with black rifles and strange pistols, but that is where the majority of gun owners interests are.
