A new Ballard owner

I found some nice parts and pieces for several projects at the Tulsa show today. I didnt buy any complete firearms, but found a nice Ballard for my friend Jake. It’s a uniform brown, 32 Long caliber, needs nothing more than a good cleanup and a liner. It’s a twin to the first one I bought 5 years ago. While not Jake’s first single shot, it’s his first Ballard and a great deal at $500. He now calls be his enabler, as not only did I tell him about the rifle, I offered to loan him cash to make the purchase.
He promised he won’t rat me out to his bride Veronica.

In my defense I was left without adult supervision, cellargun doesn’t qualify when pre 1900 rifles are involved, but then again I sure don’t either, we both very much resemble small children in a candy shop at a decent gun show. I nearly broke my arm trying to get money out of my pocket once he showed me that Ballard.
I’ve got it cleaned up and am trying to decide if want to play with it as is or just line it and chamber it in 32 SW long. The bore is rough but might just shoot, right on the edge where it go either way. It’s my first experience with 32 colt long so I’m figuring out the loading and making cases. I’ve got a stash of 25-20 SS brass so I might just sacrifice a couple to convert to 32 colt and try it before order a liner.

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

Well you got it priced right to be able to make it a great shooter, even if it means having it relined.

I’m pretty sure ssdave has 32 long colt loaded shells.  I just bought some 38 long colts from him.  The price is right and you can start shooting right away and then reload the brass.

I’m wrong on Dave having these.  I just found a screen shot I made of the ad, of his, from a couple months ago.  They were 32 SW longs.
