Jimmy, so the bulged case was a 32 Long Colt shot in a 32 S&W Long chamber?

Yes, and the S&W chamber is slightly oversized.
A 32-20 case will almost fully chamber and the base diameter is more than .01 bigger. Still going to make a cast.

New or fired 32-20?
Might make just enough difference if it was fired.

Might also check 25-20 and 218 Bee headstamps if you have them. Often the base is a few thousandths smaller diameter.

Double checked, I’m actually using 218 Bee. Base measures .346”

If the bore is good you might look at having the chamber sleeved and then properly reamed back to the original chamber. As long as bubba didn't also make his new chambering too deep it will be the cheapest fix.

I would second this idea

Unfired 25-20 case in barrel alone is .009 from flush from the breechface.

Same case in action isn't close so it is hanging up on the extractor.

Shouldn’t be too hard get some brass if you want to fire it before reworking the barrel. Turning a few thousandths off 25-20 base would be easy enough.

32  Colt New Police has a slightly larger base than 32 S&W, if you can find the actual brass. 32 H&R even 7.62 Nagant rimmed. Those would be a bit of improvement.

I’d tell everyone it’s  Undecidedchambered in 30-15 Wesson, as in Frank Wesson. .342” base and .310” bullet. Probably priceless as it’s a very rare chambering.

What is bore and groove diameters?
