Remington rolling block no 4 big chamber

Print Post
Bought a Remington no 4 rolling block at the Tulsa show.
Chambered to 32 Smith and Wesson, chamber is .03 to big.  Shocked

Why do people just hack guns then sell a lie? I'm probably done going.

Sorry to see this. Sadly quite a few guns have been ruined by backyard bozos.

I have a #2 roller originally chambered in .25-25 Stevens, a very rare chambering. Some jack@ass ruined the chambet by running some unknown chamber reamer into it. I had it relined and chambered back to .25-25.

I also have a #1 sporting rifle in .44-77 that some infidel ran an end mill into the chamber - completely ruined it. I had that one rebarreled by C. Sharps with a new Green Mountain .44-77 barrel.

Caveat Emptor!

When I look at a prospective firearm I try and really take my time to go over it. I have been bitten before also. No matter how bad I want it if it just doesn't seem kosher or the seller tries to rush the sale I don't buy it. Sorry for your pain but most anything can be repaired it just means more time and money.I recently bought a Hepburn and was told by the seller the bore was no good but sight unseen I took a chance hoping it was usable. Nope it was not. A liner and chamber reamer and help from some folks here I am again good to go.Costly mistake on my part. A liner and cartridge of your choice and you will be good again....

I have one that might be chambered in the same cartridge, it’s called the 32 wazzit. Before getting too crazy, cast it or just throw caution to the wind and see how well a shortened 32-20 case fits.

In my 32 wazzit, I use a 32-20 cut down to something like .610” then ream out the neck to accept the bullet.

I have found some cartridges with close dimensions. But nothing exact. There was a 320 S&W sometimes called 32 S&W rifle, that shot a larger bullet. It was for their revolving rifle. I thought the 32 wazzit might be a short version of that. Mostly just trying to come up with a story to fit the cartridge.

It’s a pretty rare chambering and mine has a left hand twist, so I’ve left it alone since I got it shooting pretty easy.

When I bought mine it was sold as a 25 RF. Pretty easy to see it wasn’t a 25, nor rimfire, so I took a chance.

Good luck.

That's a good idea. Thanks.

ETA That's what this is. A short 32-20 case will work. Thanks!

If the bore is good you might look at having the chamber sleeved and then properly reamed back to the original chamber. As long as bubba didn't also make his new chambering too deep it will be the cheapest fix.

Great bore, see above. A shorter 32-20 case will work.

Just be careful of bullet diameter, the brass gets real thick depending on how short it is. Mine are cut at .645”

Here is my two cents.  I had a similar situation.  I had the chamber sleeved and then recut the chamber. It worked great. The only downside you could see the line where the chamber meets the bore.  At least it’s an option

I can do that here if needed. Going to make a chamber cast and see what I have. My calibrated eyeballs see a slight shoulder and neck. Could just be a short 32-20 case.

Well crap, I must confess to being an idiot. While thinking S&W guess what was sitting right next to a couple of boxes of 32 S&W short, a box of 32 colt. Maybe my brain was thinking it has to shoot the colt round because it is 32RF. Walking around the show had me worn out. I should know better.
So the chamber is still oversized it's not as bad as I thought. Only .007 or so. Didn't use a ball gauge just 40+ year old Brown and Sharpe calipers. Looks like it will shoot S&W long just fine.

Another sign my brain is tired and it's time to quit. Thanks everyone.

I'm a bit confused by the first picture of that bent and bulged case? Sure made me think the chamber had big problems if brass came out looking like that picture!

Never know what shape they take unsupported. In short case like that where the web can’t expand and the smaller diameter allowing the case to rest on the bottom of he chamber, it gets a lot of blow by. Actually pretty lucky not to end up with a face full and a case head separating.

Jimmy, so the bulged case was a 32 Long Colt shot in a 32 S&W Long chamber?
