USPS Ground Advantage DONT DO IT!

I have given up on the postal service unless somebody has a post office box and it's the only option then I go priority mail. My Last few  experiences , receiving things from ground "dis" advantage has been three weeks to go two states. And the package tracking is horrible and it seems to bounce around between facilities.

PO sucks period.
A gentleman sent me a money order for something he was buying and it took 8 days to reach me; just an envelope, not even a package.

I generally have good luck sending.  Receiving is usually delayed in Seattle as it seems to bounce around the various Seattle facilities for a few days.

I did have an issue when one member here had to send me a check 3 times.  The first 2 dropped off the face of the earth.

The second had a tracking number and 2 months later it still said it was in transit.  My local PO employee said the last scan was in Missouri.  Not really on the way from California to WA state.

It's a crap shoot. I ordered some nylon bore brushes from Brownells Friday and they shipped Saturday and will be here tommorrow. That is with ground advantage, $1 and some change cheaper than priority. Small packages do better than barrells and stock sets for sure. Flight cancelations has an impact on mail also. Overall, the service here is not to bad in mid-America. Seems there are more problems that are more specific to the region. Just my experiance with only 15 or so shipments a year. 1 or 2 items a year may take an extera 2-3 days but always makes it here. Had an inbound barrel that got stuck at the local distrubution center for 3 days but upon reciept, the end of the shipping tube had got knocked off and was retaped apparently. Big stuff seems to be an issue more often . Packaging that doesn't fit the automated process.

YMMV

I was mistaken.  Here is the status of the second check.

My semi-recent experiences have been trying. Tough on blood pressure. One check arrived some weeks after the second one I sent (because the first had not arrived) in a small Priority Mail box.

Bought a Hiwall that was shipped from western Missouri to me in SW Virginia. It was very nicely packaged with the wood separate from the barreled action. Miscellaneous accessories were in a third package. The barreled action and wood was shipped first and the next day the miscellaneous box shipped. All Priority. Miscellaneous arrived first in good order. Then I followed the path of the other two. Was encouraged when they reached Indianapolis, but then they went to Chicago for a few days. That’s not on the way to SW Virginia and I just don’t think of good things happening in Chicago. For three more days the report was “Departed Chicago Distribution Facility.” I wondered if they knew in which direction the parcels headed. The first finally arrived and the second two days later all in good shape due to excellent packaging. Guess I should be thankful the USPS didn’t charge for mileage or storage.

I think your local post office up there is problematic and run by incompetent people.

Not to say that this probably the common case anymore with USPS.

Also I have noticed it’s very difficult getting an item from the west coast to the east coast through ANY carrier with theft or damage!😡

Fed Ex used to be my shipper of last resort… now it’s USPS. They deserve every bit of ire bandied their way.

Mike

You are correct, packages go to KC to die. I’m 40 miles from KC. My most recent package took almost 3 weeks to get from Arizona to me, with over a week of that being stalled in KC.

Welcome to my world.  I ship about 100 packages a month.  30 day domestic delivery is not uncommon.

As bad as USPS is, they occasionally get things right. I sent Westerner a reamer Friday and it estimated arrival as Monday. Darned if it didn't make it on the day estimated!
Maybe I should break down and buy a lottery ticket?

That is a real surprise since the USPS uses mules to haul mail the last 100 miles to Westerner's town.

I usually do OK with USPS, but last couple guns I ordered from Wyoming took substantially longer than I thought was appropriate to make it to PA

Surprisingly enough, here in the Midwest packages from California arrive faster than most states that are much closer. I have no clue why.

Hmmm, I have had poor service with FedEx and UPS.

FedEx delivered a set of barrels for a drilling to a golf club with a huge membership even though the shipping label clearly showed my address.  Luckily my gunsmith tracked it down and I was able to retrieve them.

UPS has lost two guns.  One was found after a few days later and the 2nd was found 6 mo later, missing one of its two barrels.

I have had the USPS take 6 weeks to deliver a rifle.  It seemed to have been lost at my local PO until I started the claim process.

UPS delivered some steel rods (used for firing pins) to my neighbor (left by their garage) even though the packaging clearly showed my address.  By the time my neighbor found and delivered the rods to me, I had reordered & received new rods.

I guess that all the above means that each delivery service has problems.
