Oh, Joe, your eyes are going bad after all these, many, many, many years. That isn't a 35-40 in the picture. Probably a 32-22-35, but I can't see any markings.

I'm slow, in fact slower than any oxygen breathing mammal should be. So I got sucked in on these April Fools posts and should be as embarrassed as a healthy oyster offering up a square pearl.

Jack, this pistol thing might work out.

Took the 500 S&W out today and fired it.  I've never fired one before.  Surprisingly, the recoil is quite mild.  Especially considering it has just a little bit more energy than my .45-90-540gr rifle.  But, it put 1/16" deep divots in my 1/2" steel plate target.

Probably a bit loud.  I couldn't tell, I put on earmuffs over my earplugs.

When I was a teenager my friend and I were at the Tacoma range in the pistol bay when an old guy (maybe my current age) was firing a new Ruger Blackhawk (not super) in 44 mag.  He was complaining each time he shot about the recoil.  He finally asked us if we wanted to finish his box of ammo since he was returning the pistol and would not get any credit for the ammo.  It was a bang, literally.  My friend was not to big and tried shooting from a sitting position and rolled over backwards.  I enjoyed it.

I have a few 44 mags, and the recoil is not bad at all on them.  Never understood all the hype and hysteria over shooting them.  Then again, all mine are N Frame S&W, no light weights.  I guess I do have one Ruger, with a 6 inch barrel.   

The .50 S&W recoil wasn't much more than one of the 44's, because it's heavy and the barrel is ported.   

On second thought, the .50 S&W is not an economical choice to shoot.  I shot 5 rounds out of a 20 round box.  Came home and thought, that's a fun pistol, I think I'll keep it and so should get some more ammo.   

Just now looked up buying some more ammo.  WHOA, Sticker Shock!  The Grizzly ammo I shot is $111.79 per box of 20, so I shot $27.95 worth with those 5 shots.  I have 175 rounds left that came with the gun, as well as 50 bullets and a set of dies, so I can shoot it for awhile, I guess.   Bullets to reload it start at $1 apiece, and go up from there.  Will cost me about $200 to get a mold, gas checks and a push through sizer to seat the gas checks if I want to roll my own.  Almost as expensive as shooting obsolete caliber single shots!

Tommy's cannon.  The good old days.   

I ended up buying a Ruger Blackhawk Hunter in 44 mag and was thinking of shooting silhouettes with it until I saw Quigley Down Under.  I sold the pistol and the 1.5x scope for about $50 over what I pid for it and bought a 45-70 Italian sharps.  It wasn't long before I upgraded to an old Shiloh 45-70 business rifle.  I have hardly shot anything but single shots since.

Don’t know where his rifles ended up. Dave might know. 
I was sitting behind my spotting scope watching Tom shoot that target. I was in the middle of the range and he was at the right end of the range. I was trying to determine how many shots were on the target. It took close to 1/2 hour for him to shoot the final shot. He would look through his scope for a while then sit up and take a sip from his cup of ???  When he finally put the first shot on his second target I knew he had his 250. He only had 20 min or so for target 2 and had to rush through it.
