I have had a Kowa TSN-1 25x77 for several years and still enjoy it's usefulness. I am wondering if there is something out there better that doesn't cost thousands. Thinking of a replacement but don't know if I'll gain anything. Flatlander

If looking for spotting at longer ranges (300+), think about a longshot camera system. Even the best glass can't handle mirage, a camera system does.

Even though lenses have improved over the years I'm thinking my eyes are the weakest link currently. Higher price does not mean seeing 22 holes better at 200 yards.

+100 for the Longshot camera system.
I am able to see my shots at 300 yds with no issue. With their app, I am able to mark each shot in the order made and save a picture of the target for later analysis. Should I ever get to a 1000 yd range, I can add a second repeater. At $400 (on sale) at Christmas, you do the math versus a Kowa or other high end target scopes.

That thing with the camera works really well to see .22 holes at 200. If every thing works fine and you don't blink, you can see the bullet hit the target. Only about 1/3 the cost of a really good spotting scope.
If you use a laptop instead of a cell phone for the viewing screen, the picture is much better. Field of view is a problem.
We do not put the camera in the probable line of fire. We offset it by 20 feet +. The equipment is fragile & somewhat finnicky. Make sure you are the only one shooting at 200 or shoot from the end bench. We've been able to reserve range time so it is just the 2 or 3 of us, then shoot one rifle at a time. Not everybody has that choice.
Keeping the signal from when you set up the camera until you get back to the bench might be a problem. We shoot across a swamp. Our access road goes through some woods. Sometimes we lose the signal & have to start over.
Check with someone who is computer & e-camera literate before you sink $1K+ into the gizmo.

As for spotting scopes, I have a TSN-1 that I bought around 1989. I recently sent it in to Kowa to go through and clean. It’s pretty hard to find a much better scope.
For me, a camera system would work nicely for my shooting at home. But for matches, a good scope is a must.
