45-70 Sharps Carbine

Got an original Carbine that Hoyt put a 45-70 liner in for me. On his invoice he has that its 1-20" twist and .457,  What grain 45 do you think would work well in a 1-20 short barreled carbine? I'm just looking for a starting point.

I would start with a 405-420 gr bullet and see how it goes should not be hard to find a used mold and Lee has some at reasonable prices
19-22 gr of Accurate 5744 would be my starting point for loads
Let me know how it turns out

405 will be the most comfortable to shoot in that, but it will handle up to 500 grain bullets.
The 300 and 350 grain bullets should work well also.

Thanks for the replies, I've got several molds in 45 so I'll get some 405s made up and give that a try first. Since this thing is an original carbine I don't want to shoot anything hot in it so not to sure about smokeless but I'm sure the trapdoor loads will be fine in it. Not worried about the barrel since I had it lines by Hoyt but with the old receiver and block I don't want to abuse it to much. Thanks
