I’m n reading the current BPC News which just came, in an article First Sergeant Ryan’s Rifle, the mention a 500 grain paper patch bullet from a Tom Ballard mold.
I have a Lyman mould that says T Ballard 408. Cast a 300 gr bullet.
Who is/was T Ballard?

Tom was a great mold maker from Clancy Montana. At one time I must of had 10-12 of his molds, he seemed to use Lyman blocks alot.

I've got one of his adjustable paper patch moulds for 45 caliber. I think it casts about .446 or there abouts. It came along with a Sharps Borchardt which I no longer have. It is adjustable from about 365 to 550 grains and built on RCBS blocks if I remember right. I've used it a lot in an original 45-70 Meacham Sharps and a Peabody Connecticut Militia 45-70. I think I had it set to about 480 grains for both those rifles. I knew Tom from Virginia City shoots and a lot of local gun shows. Great guy.

Although Mr. Ballard seems best known for his moulds, he made other accessories for single shots as well. His work was not fancy, but pieces were always well-finished and well-fitted where they needed to be.

Here is an old flier of Tom's, he had written a note on the back about a Win. 45/75 loading tool I got from him.
You can't make good decisions without good information.
