30/30 question

Print Post
I just bought an interesting Martini action Schuetzen rifle chambered for of all things the 30/30. Typical style but with a new 32" very heavy barrel installed. I haven't loaded for the 30/30 for years and I'm wondering if anyone could suggest some starting loads to help me get started on the path to accuracy. I don't know the twist rate yet but the bore is .3078. Thanks

If shooting fixed or breach seated, 13 - 14 gr 4227 or 300 MP, with a 150 - 200gr lead bullet. One grain less with #9.

No wads! Except at case mouth or bullet base.

Read the article on vintage 30 cast bullets in the latest Journal for ideas. I believe SR 80 became SR 4759 which has been replaced in use by 4227.
