Shocked

Did it break in half? Holy guacamole!

It’s worth more because of the repair? What are they thinking?

Mold?
Here's another Ballard that might have a crack in it. No mold.

Maybe it’s an illusion because of the angle of the photo, but that looks like it was welded together crooked? The back half seems to be going ever so slightly uphill?

I’m not sure how much more devastation I can handle in one evening….. Shocked

The bottom view makes it look like it was welded back together with the breech block in place.

Well, the wood looks servicable and, if the description if accurate, maybe a good barrel and tang sight.

at about 1/3 to 1/2 that price.

A good wall hanger at 1/4th of what he's asking. I can't believe someone even saved that Rigby?

"Set trigger not working"???? Guy doesn't even know it's not a set trigger! I have a bunch of single trigger Ballards that wont set too. Must be a common problem.

I knew an old gunsmith that used to put M1 Garand actions back together that the Gov had kindly torched in half when they sent them to the dump. When he finished they could not be told from new.

I remember the infamous Francis boys (Milwaukee area) known for patching things together. They had an interesting 1903 that I was interested in until I looked down the bore and saw half was 2 groove and half 4 groove. Wonder if they ever found a sucker for that one. I sold them a 1862 pocket Colt with the cylinder scene intact but the serial numbers did not match. They gave me good money and after the sale I asked what they were thinking about the mismatch. "We have all the stamps except for the #5 so it will match when we are done with it." And I knew of a gent who freshed up the gain rifling on a Walker and others so Buyer Beware.

Or he's fishing for suckers who might bite!

I own a few Rigby Ballard rifles and never paid much more than he's asking. But then mine don't have any fancy weld work done to them either.

I probed that seller on the other Ballard he has listed that is a pieced together gun on a cast frame. From my interaction with him I determined he is a total NUT.

CBW? Is this a CBW? Shouldn't it be CBR?

Bob Gordon blew that one up. Told me he was using straight BP in a large BP caliber.

How desperate does a guy get to save these blown up actions? I'd make them wall art myself.

Many years ago my father and I were helping to remodel a house owned by an older relative. In the course of tearing out sheet rock, we found two very old, rusted, and inoperable H&R revolvers in the walls of the garage.

Turned out there were both solid frame .32 rimfires. I took them home, intending to make shadow boxes, but they just sat in my garage getting rustier.

A friend who was pretty talented got them to function, sort of, but function they did and I took them to a police trade in event where I got enough cash to take he, his wife, his daughter, and myself out to dinner!  Grin You could see that the cops working the event were none too pleased to be getting what was obviously paper weights, but they were obligated to, so they paid out.

Perfect end for what was essentially found junk!  Cheesy Grin

I have a friend who bought every old junk stock, action and barrel he could find. Didn't matter how they fit together as he just taped them up and made them look like junk guns. Then he, his wife, and son each stood in line at police trade ins and got $50 each for them. His idea was to not just get the money, but also make them run out of money too. Sometimes he even got some friends to go along if he'd made up more than a few of these fake guns.
