Guess what Wes? Another parts gun!!

I picked up a small shank High Wall action of this forum last year and have been contemplating what to barrel it with.  I have a 30" #2 weight octagon .357 barrel that I will eventually make fy first attempt to fit a barrel from scratch, but at the last Chehalis Wa gun show, I picked up a small shank barrel for $40 in 256 Win Mag.  It had 2 shoulders which left a gap between the receiver and barrel.  After machining a collar, cutting dovetails for the flat spring and forend and making a forend, I purchased some dies and brass from the guy who had the barrel.  I now have one more high wall parts gun for my collection.

Tomorrow I will drill and tap a front scope mount with the correct spacing.  The existing holes were spaced for a rear mount and too close.

What's the twist on the barrel?

I measured it at 10.

I don't have any moulds that throw a tapered bullet narrow enough to breech seat yet so I am going to be shooting fixed ammo, most likely CG bullets in the 100 gr range.

Time to stop buying and reconfiguring actions. Since July 1st I have added to my high wall stable the following. A DST 32-40, a 30-30 and a 25-35 takedown.  I received my 32RKS rifle from the gunsmith, added a newly acquired 38-55 barrel and this 256 Win barrel to existing actions and installed a 40-65 barrel to an old action which I sold. I also bought and sold a Stevens 44-1/2.  Time to start shooting and stop tinkering.

Here is the 32 RKS I got back from the gunsmith.  I added some wood I had on hand, opening the channel in the forend up to accommodate the 1.2" barrel.

I have a 25 caliber mold from J.K.Borton, 117g, pointy spitzer bullet. Front 2 bands measure .255, rear driving band is .258. I ordered it to be for fixed ammo, but based on the measurements it seems it’s for breech seating(?). If you’re interested, let me know. Richard

I tried my 2 25 cal spitzers but didn't measure them.  I will do so tomorrow.

Thanks
