Uberti 1885 barrel wanted

I have a Uberti 1885 in 45-70 which is too much for my shoulder.  Would anybody have a take off barrel in a smaller caliber for sale?  Could use a barrel to reline.  Thought I would check here.  Thanks  Charlie

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

Might as well just have a liner put in your existing barrel. Probably be the least expensive and quickest fix. Any barrel you buy will still need to be fitted and headspaced for your Uberti.

Hi Vall,

In the FWITW category I am considering doing the same thing in 32/20.
or 32/40.

Being a Newbee I recently found that there are a couple of subtle groove differences in the 32 caliber cartridge world.

I believe TJ's lists their groove at .312 or .323. (8MM)
Most of my 32 cal moulds drop at .321,  so for me the TJ in .323 (8MM)
is not something I would go with.

Link to a thread on the subject, good info

Like the .38-55 also, the .32-40 groove diameters can vary greatly. Especially so with older rifles that makers didn't seem to be all that standardized. I have .32-40 original rifles that are as small as a .317" groove, and the largest is my Hepburn Match B that's .327"! The smaller groove isn't much of a problem, but the larger .327" is, so it only gets fired as a breech seater since I can't load my .327" bullets and chamber the cartridges.

I think I have 4 spare Ballard barrels, and only one .38-55 with a nice bore, and a .32-40 that looks like new inside and out.
