Withdrawn due to no interest.  It is on gunbroker as a no reserve auction now.

An unfired 1874 C Sharps from an estate.  In custom fitted case.  I went through the C sharps configuration and this is a $3700+ rifle from them.  I'm asking $2850 plus shipping and insurance.

Wow, that is a nice rifle.  I am surprised nobody had interest.

Dave,
These C.Sharps French Grey Rifles make good candidates for an antique finish.
I have done a few using Picante Sauce.

Pace picante sauce?  I like that finish.  What are the steps?

Looks like the vinegar does the color change, and the tomatoes and stuff affect how it works enough to make the mottled appearance.

Can you still enjoy the sauce with chips afterwards?  I am going to did out a piece of steel and try this out.  Need to make a run to Safeway.

Dave, you are correct, degrease, spoon it on and let it set for 20 minutes. The  vegetable pieces make the mottled shapes and the vinegar causes the dark uneven staining. Rinse and oil then reassemble.
This 16 pounder is a 45/70. The price was more than reasonable but could not stand the Polished French Grey finish.
Don’t firget to treat the butt plate!!😉😁

Get Mathew Quigly to sign it... !
Of course someone would invariably point out it's not a 45-120

I have a early Big Timber Shiloh .45-110 that was all nickle including the barrel. Years ago I stripped the finish off with Caswell B9 nickle remover a very simple process in a bucket wash. Then Had Lee Shaver do a proper color case and then I rust blued the barrel. It came out beautiful.

I used to color carbon steel knife blade using simple Catsup. Made from tomato and vinegar the recipe is cheaper than the other recommendation. In addition it imparts a fine, European cache' much preferable to south of the border spillage Roll Eyes
