What Do I have?

I am unclear as to what this 38-55 breech seater would fit.  Not sure how the geometry would allow the hook to engage something.  Any ideas?

Here is stalking rifle in the usual 8.15x46R with what is usually called a Kettner action due to deHass's book. They are strong enough for just about anything and since the one in question had been rebarrelled there could have been various options added to use with the bullet seater. Perhaps it was just an extension of the hinge pin.

It appears to be in-line so my initial thought would be that it would have to hook up to a tang sight/tang sight base/adaptor that fits on the tang. I can't see how else it could work as it appears to be too long to hook against the rear of the receiver opening, but that's just my initial 2 cents. Would love to find out for sure. Chris

Yes, I made one something like it for a 44 1/2 but, with a offset handle to clear the scope.

I also made the base to go in the tang sight holes and used a 1/4" dowel for the pivot, rather than use a original sight base. I just put a swallow "V" in the bottom to center on the frame.

I estimated the total length of the rod from the cartridge rim to the contact point of the pivot slot on the handle at 4 1/2 inches and then checked this on my "Kettner". This would fall on the tang between the safety slot and the tang's stock screw. The tang is sturdy both in width and thickness and could have either had another slot added or something mounted in that area. The problem with adding another slot would be that on the bottom of the center of the tang is a small screw holding a spring that retains the safety in the on position. Of course for a target rifle the safety could be eliminated, also in which case if my estimate is too long the safety slot itself could have been modified and used to receive the handle.
