What action is this? Larger then 44, mechanically similar.

Probably a model 44 Schuetzen. It was a large frame 44 action, with double set triggers.

The action was 1.25” wide instead of 1.125”. Big difference was the height. Being about 2” instead of 1 3/4.

Hope you have the whole rifle, not real common.

Yep, entire rifle in good shape with new barrel but needs new pivot screws I hope. Lever doesn’t quite over center and latch lever up.

Guess I’ll need to have the screws made as opposed buying some.

There are screws out there, need to identify which style you need and if the where is in the pin, link, lever or all three.

There were 2 different diameters of screws, and also what was basically a two headed screw.

CPA has some of them.

Take a close look at the link and link pins, the holes in the link are commonly worn oblong.
You should have a nice rifle when you get it finished. Really nice case colors on your action.

Put completely back together and all is well. Basically just needed some maintenance. Looks like it should be a shooter. Going to verify it shoots well then need to send some pieces off to be blued. Breech and barrel are in the white and someone has already gone to town on the butt so I’m going to finish it off for use with BPCR.

I'm not sure if you got your questions answered. The 47 is the model number, also known as the "Modern Range" model. The different models 45-47-49-52 etc were made on both the 44 action and the 44 1/2 action. You have a 44 action. Generally speaking, the higher the number, the finer the quality of the rifle. (Checkering, Engraving, wood quality etc). The model 44's and 44 1/2s were the basic models for each line. The model 45 "Range Model" was the next step up and the first in lines(s) with Swiss buttplates as standard. Obviously, your barrel has been replaced and the buttplate has been altered. Regards, Chris

This action is physically larger then either 44 action I have and the pins/pivot screws are different. Deilet actually answered.

That screw pattern is unusual.  Not the usual position of 44s, and not right for a 44 1/2 either.  Could this be an uncommon different action I'm forgetting?

UPDATE: I see it was answered as a 44 Schuetzen.  What is the large screw hole in the top near the breach for?

Thats the pivot pin for the breech block, all 44 actions have it. The extra screw on this one is at the bottom. Not many 44’s had double set triggers with a removable tang. Same triggers used in the 44 1/2.

Thanks, I kept seeing different things that didn't look right.  Note (on this drawing that I made for CPA years ago) the angles of the 2 rear screws are angled towards the rear, and the "close to the edge" other screw, totally match a 44 1/2, not a 44. (yellow arrows).
But the cutout lower receiver and the pivot, look like the 44, not 44 1/2 (blue).

Not sure what you’re asking or seeing.
Your drawing looks like an early 44 action, lower side wall than the later action, maybe a little more square cut. But not a 100 series that was square like the sidelate models.
The block you drew looks like it used a 7 o’clock extractor which rode on the side of block instead of centered. Again indicating early 44 production.

As for trigger screw holes, on the 44, the trigger pivoted on the pin, that places the hole more or less between the screw holes on models fitted with the double set tang. You can’t really add set triggers to a 44, had to be done at the factory, or plug the existing hole. 44 1/2 used a two screw tang for both single and double trigger varieties.

The photo is a 6 o’clock extractor, model 44 action, fitted with double set triggers. The trim on the one in thread is 47 and with the extra thick action, is what makes it a Schuetzen.
