25-35 Thoughts

While the 25-20 SS and the 25-20 WCF are being debated in another topic, I was wondering what member's thoughts were on the 25-35? Do you think the case has too much capacity to make a good 25 caliber schuetzen cartridge? I have been using the 25-20 WCF this past year and have had very erratic velocities from one shot to another. Is there another. 25 caliber cartridge based on a shortened 30-30 that might be better? Not quite sure how to make a 25 caliber RKS case out of 38 maximum using a 223 die either. Is that case a bottleneck?

I built a 25/35 on a hiwall with a BRC bbl & it will shoot sub 1 inch 10 shot groups with either 4759 or 300mp & a 127gr. RCBS 257-120 cast 1:20

I shoot with a few guys with the 25-35 and seeing the results myself,  I am planning on getting one. If I get funds together and get someone with experience,  I may rebarrel my 32-40, or just get a new rifle in the caliber (don't tell the wife!)

In December I shot with my dad's CPA in 25-35. I had never shot the rifle or caliber, and i shot a 244, and the 2 flyers were called due to conditions.  Convinced me that that is the caliber I plan on getting

I've had a few in .25-35 and found it to be a very accurate cartridge. I use a 122 gr. cast bullet and it's consistently accurate.
I also own a .28-35 that's as good or maybe a bit better.

I also have a 25-35 BRC choked barrel as one of my barrels on an original 44 1/2. I haven't had a chance to really work with it as I switched to the 32-20 barrel for some pistol cartridge matches. Initial guesses got promising results from a 113 grain Lyman 257325 and a 111 grain Mos. I've just put the 25-35 barrel back on so I can get to some serious testing. I will say the 25-35 is very pleasant to shoot.

JerryH mentioned some use by guys there and I think John Louis was instrumental in developing that modern version of the .28-35 also?
Mine is the early version developed by H.M. Pope on my Pope Ballard.

John Louis used my .28-35 reamer. I bought it many years ago from a friend. The reamer belonged to my friend's dad and most likely originated in Southern CA.  Probably sometime in the early 70's.

Back on subject.

I know of two .25-35 chambered rifles that have shot 250 targets at 200 yards in Modesto. It's an excellent cartridge in my opinion. Brass is easy to find or make and should last a long time.

I'm not a complete idiot, some of my parts are missing.
