1871 Rollingblock Question
Feb 12th, 2026 at 6:49pm
Print Post
I'm cleaning up an estate and one of the items is a receiver for an 1871 US Springfield Rollingblock with the trigger, mainspring, and some other parts in it.

Would the rest of the internals from a #1 RB work in this receiver?

Smokey Bear was a real cute and real scared and burned little cub when the Forest Ranger in Capitan, New Mexico pulled him out of a tree burned by a forest fire in 1950. After his death at the National Zoo his body was returned to Capitan for burial where there is a Smokey Bear Historical Park.

I thought so, too, Vall, but then I read the fine print in the OP's post at the bottom, and it makes sense.

To answer the original question, the 1871 Springfield Armory Rolling block used a slightly modified mechanism, that dropped the hammer to half cock when the block was closed.  Because of that, I don't think the parts will directly interchange with a #1.

Would parts from a NY state model rolling block work? They have the same drop to half cock feature.

Check with Ken Womack at rolling block parts. He may have what you need in the way of parts and answers.

Sorry Chauncey! I missed his reference to Smokey below his post! My bad.
