I was fortunate today to be able to obtain one of those grail guns for me. An A Hubalek striker fired Ballard .22 rifle. The rifle started life as a #8 Union Hill model that Hubalek fitted one of his Hubalek Special barrels to. It appears the Ballard also got a #6 ball & spur style lever with checkered inserts also. The barrel is a heavy #4 weight full round 30" barrel. Double set triggers as the #8 Union Hill came with and typical Union Hill buttplate. The seller said the forearm was junk, and he had someone make up a new forearm and checker it to match.
Seller was just 4 hrs. away, so we each drove a couple hours to meet up and do this deal. Both of us happy with the deal, but I think I am beyond happy on my end!

I love ball & spur levers, especially with wood fillers and checkering!

That's a really neat Ballard. What time period was Mr. Hubalik? Wonder just how many striker actions he made?

Glad it worked out for you Vall. I am sure it will shoot well once you spend a few hundred searching for THAT lot of .22 match ammo. Did you have lunch at the Country Cousin?  Yak burger?

No we met at a place called Jeremy's Farm to Table restaurant and market. He wanted to buy me lunch, but we'd already spent a couple hours talking and looking at our two trade single shots, so we just had coffee and a brownie, and I hit the road to beat rush hour traffic.
Wish I'd known about Country Cousins earlier as I'd have arranged to meet there instead.

We used to take our kids out there with my Dad when he was staying at an adult care house in Centralia. The first time my we went there my oldest who was maybe 10 refused to go in because she was freaked out by the chicken on the roof and the chicken clucking sounds the door made.

Arthur Hubalek was a piano tuner and trained tool and die worker in the late 1800's. He began making his own .22 barrels around (edit-post WWI) from what I've found. He was also a fantastic shooter and the only person who could out shoot Doc Hudson at that time. He broke Hudson's record and I think his 2486 pts. out of a perfect 2500 might still be unbroken from what I've read? Hubalek was active up into the late 40's, and died sometime in the early to mid 50's.

There are indeed two Americas. Simply put, it is not the haves and have nots. The two Americans are in reality divided into those who do and those who don't.

I found and bought a Hubalek 1891 Rolling Block target pistol a couple years ago and figured that was going to be as close as I'd ever get to owning a Hubalek, so this was a real treat to get!
