28-30 UMC round looks reloaded.

Was reading up on the 28-30 and saw that it was recommended to not fire the original rounds due to the primers used. So I grabbed my 1 28-30 round to disassemble and noticed what appears to be a more modern silver primer. This doesn't look original to me. I'll still pull the bullet, dump the powder, and use a new primer. Just curious.

I agree with you, the primer looks like a modern one.

The bullet was a slip fit in the brass. Pulled it out and there was a small charge of smokeless flake powder. Yeah, it's not original.

That does not look like an original bullet, either.

On the scarcer or even rare rounds, collectors often establish subsets on primers alone, valuing certain shapes and materials used as more valuable, based on scarcity. In other words, we might be better off posting a question and picture on a collector forum.
