it is at best a crapshoot. now on the positive side i just sent two packages to Gillette ,Wy. both got there safely and in 5 days. one was a heavy barreled action.
my son works at the post office and he has all kind of stories. the most horrible was the box of live chickens left sitting on a counter. does anyone know how long a chicken can survive in a closed box??     modern America!

I hate to break a trend but over the last three years I've mailed six rifles and three barrels from N.Y. to Montana and Iowa and have had no problems with the U.S.P.S. in sending them or having them returned. Maybe I'm just lucky. At any rate I try not to complain about things that I have no control over and as to the idea that if everyone called or voiced their complaints things will change, well they won't. By the way, my post office serves about two hundred customers so maybe that has something to do with it.

Last time I had a package get to Oregon from Ohio it got here in record time of two days! I was extremely happy to see that on my daily tracking check until the next day when tracking showed it in transit back to Ohio!
Even when they do get something shipped quickly they figure out a way to screw it up! That package eventually got to me about 4 weeks later after I filed a complaint.

Had good & bad with USPS. One good one was an expensive tang sight I sent to Vall. From S. Jersey all the way across the U.S. to Oregon. When they told me that it would be there in 4 days, I laughed. Yea right. Well, it got there in 3 days. I couldn't believe it. I just couldn't believe it. Go figure.  Dale.

Mailed a package from Kansas to San Antonio Tx March 6 it was lost for 8 days, finally got an update yesterday, it arrived at the St Paul Mn distribution center. Only USPS would route a package from Kansas to San Antonio thru St Paul.

I understand the problems/complaints. But with a recent loss/theft I actually had a positive outcome.
I sent a barrel packed very well in a tube. Tube got there with no barrel, broken tube end and taped back up. I had insured it. Filed claim. Easy to do and got a reply in four days. To be paid. And I got the check a few days later.
Now I do have a complaint. The online site says something like don’t put shipping cost in claim. So I didn’t. Figured they would include it. Figured wrong. I have to file an appeal. Gentlemen I spoke with at USPS said the policy made no sense.

I mailed a man a check for a scope about 4 days ago.

According to the tracking information the envelope was received by the recipient at 11 AM today..
GREAT.. !..right.... Well no not so great, the intended receiver called me tonight and said he got the same info from USPS but he did not get the envelope.

I had included a AirTag for him to include in the return package with the scope. I was able to give him the address where the package was last seen, which was only a few blocks away, he went there while I was on the phone with him, gave him the street address (where it had pinged 4 minutes earlier) and the approximate location (NE corner of the house address).

I sent a signal to the AirTag to beep / ping the device, Sure enough it was right there. I could actually hear the ping thru his cell phone from half across the country. So score another point for the benefits of AirTags.

It's also worth noting that UPS has started to put RFID tags on their packages.
"
Searched, : UPS, Yes, UPS has widely implemented "
Smart Label" RFID technology in their network,

tables turn too- while some of you seem to have perpetual difficulty with the Postal Service, I have instances of praise, and so-it-seems does Amazon (the only thing with more trucks than UPS).
A week ago I ordered a pair of frames for dollar bills to give my granddaughters for perpetuity. I hope. Well they were supposedly plunked on my door step, as it Amazon's way, but no package was ever found. A query by my wife regarding the incident brought a new shipment of my purchase, delivered yesterday by my USPS deliveryman. I'm happy with both services and am pleased to say it here.
Thank you, Amazon for replacing the lost articles. And, a smiling thanks to the USPS.

I wasn't going to comment on this thread until I got a final answer to a loss that occurred back in December.  I sent 2 rolls of Tin wire via insured USPS priority mail.  Up to this point I sold several other rolls without incident.  This shipment got as far as Iowa and sat there for about 2 weeks.  After I had my local postmaster look into it, she was told they had the package without any contents.
In order to file a claim, I had to initiate a search for "lost" mail.  Then make the claim that was denied almost immediately.  Then I filed an appeal with documents showing what was lost.  That took a week and it was also denied.  A second appeal was then filed with proof the item was paid for and refunded.  This took about a week before it was also denied.  A "final" appeal was made with documents that show what current price of the tin is today.  They claim I don't have proof what I paid for the tin.  I have no receipts as it was a cash deal when I bought the tin from a closed cannery 10 years ago.
I received their final denial yesterday.  Basically, it took almost 4 months to be told phuck off and eat the loss.  I was warned when I started the process that this was how it was going to go.

Anytime you "HAVE TO" deal with a government agency, you are pretty much screwed.

They don't give a hoot... Because they have job protections that the private sector does not have.

Got a notice in my POBox that a 'package' could not fit in my box and that it was being held in the back. OK, Great, Thanks.

When I returned from a out of town trip I went to retrieve the 'package' and was told 'ahh we can't find it right now, there is a line of people waiting, come back another day..!'

Went back a couple of days later and was told
by a rather rude surly Postal employee that, oh we only keep packages for 7 days, we probably returned it to sender. !.. WTHeck?

OK, I'll call them and get them to mail it again, who was the sender... Ahh we don't have that information.. OK, Really?.. So why am I paying you $300.00 a year for that Box?

Very frustrating.. Going forward I try to use UPS via Pirate Ship.
Just for comparison purposes,

A package (*8X6X14"box) weighing 3.7 lbs) was sent to me via USPS. It cost the sender $24.10. ground.

Unfortunately I had to send it back. I did so using Pirate Ship's / UPS relationship. It cost $15.xx, same box, same weight, same route but this time it has a UPS RFID chip.

I wish Walmart would take it all over. They are much more efficient than the USPS. The USPS does not give a damn. The month before last they took 25 days to deliver my natural gas payment 200 miles. Doesn't make me look good at payng my bills on time. And nobody does anything about it. Now they are running TV commercials showing how good Ground Advantage is.
Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.
Stop it.You're killin me!
