	Hi members. Lately, I've been thinking about my next rifle project. I just finished building a nice stalking rifle from a gifted 41 Carcano. Now working on building a sporting rifle from a cut-down Swedish RB. I kind of have an itch to build a Peabody sporting rifle. Thought that I would just throw this up to see what's out there. I would prefer center fire. Thanks for looking.

	Thanks for the info oneatatime. I looked through the listed firearms, and I saw 2 Peabodies for sale. I'll keep an eye on the auction. I'm not interested in modifying an intact original rifle. Was looking to find parts or an original that had already been messed with.

	The gun in the second auction advertised as .45-70 is NOT! That short trough breechblock and the rear sight, similar to, but longer that the ones on the Swiss Peabodys mean that gun is from the Romanian Peabody contract. It is a centerfire cartridge that can be trimmed and formed from .50-90 brass. see (You need to *Login* or *Register* to view media files and links) for article and photos distinguishing various Peabody military models. I notified the auction that the gun is mis-identified. As you can see, they didn't care. BTW, I've worked with this cartridge in my own Romanian Peabody. 	Thanks for the info John. I had previously read the article that you cited on the military rifles. It is a good read. I'm sure that some of the info would be easier to absorb with a rifle in hand. Do you still have your Romanian and shoot it? It seems a shame that Mr. Peabody hasn't received more recognition over the years for his rifle development.
