For Sale: M.S. Hendricks-Stevens Model 44 .25-20 SS Rifle

Serial No.: n/a, .25-20 SS (Single Shot) caliber; 26" part-octagonal barrel

This is a Stevens Model 44 rifle remodeled by M.S. Hendricks (Aurora, Illinois) An article on Hendricks, including this rifle, was featured in The Single Shot Rifle Journal in 2025 .

The part octagonal measures 26" long. The bore is good to very good. The top flat is marked "J. STEVENS A&T | CHICOPEE FALLS MASS U.S.A. PAT AP ...". The left flat of the barrel is stamped "25.20" for the .25-20 single shot cartridge.

The action has a single trigger. The face of the action is stamped "44" and "0". The lower tang has a faint trace of a serial number, possibly ... 364 ...

The rifle's front and rear sight dovetails have fillers.

The buttstock and forearm are in good to very good condition showing minor bumps. The bottom of the forearm near the action looks like it may have had a palm rest at some time, but the bottom of this barrel does not have a hole or block.

Rifles by Hendricks do not come up for sale often. The engraving is crisp and delicate and done by Hendricks. The edges of the stocks have small embellishments, also by Hendricks. The rifle is all original finish. The action still shows light case colors.

Price: $1,750 includes shipping via US Priority Mail

I'm surprised that no one has snapped this little beauty already.  M.S Hendricks was well known for his beautiful workmanship.  There was an very comprehensive article recently in the March/April (2025), Single Shot Journal about Hendricks by Joe Dobrzynski.  The pictures of Hendrick's artistry are stunning.  For those who are not ASSRA members, you are missing our on a great bi-monthly magazine that is more than worth the cost of joining the ASSRA.

Another wonderful offering by Joe.  This would be a greta rifle to have and hold, much less shoot.  25/20SS is a very nice cartridge.
