Need help on Soule sight identification

New member here and have a Shiloh 1874 40-65 inbound that has a Soule sight I need help identifying. The seller only sent pictures but no further information. It appears to have windage adjustment on both the base and staff. Thanks for your help.

That's not a Soule sight. it's a sharps tang sight.

Is the knob near the base just to lock the sight in position? Any idea of the make of the sight?

Thanks Skeeter

Skeeter,
You’ve been given correct information from KensBullard and TomKlinger. The knob at the base is simply the cross bolt holding the staff to the base. It allows the staff to pivot forward on recoil and backward for access to the breech. The spring in front of the staff holds the staff in upright position for shooting.
Nice Sharps by the way!

There's no windage in the base, the knob is so a shooter can unscrew the pivot screw to remove the staff without needing a screwdriver.

Perfect! Thanks for all the help. I have Baldwin soules on my other two rifles but guess he’s retired now. Will be looking for another one I think for consistency between guns but will use what it has initially. If I remember correctly did Baldwin’s Sharps/Winchester base work interchangeably between the two models?

Thanks Skeeter

Winchester uses 2.28125" hole spacing, and Sharps used 2.125" spacing. Sharps also used 1.125" spacing the same as Marlin used.

The reason I asked about the Winchester/Sharps being the same is because I have a Pedersoli Win 1886 and a Pedersoli Lyman 1878 Sharps that both have the same hole spacing of approximately 2.17” and they have the same Baldwin base on them. My Shiloh 1877 has a Baldwin base that is approximately 1.13” so I’ll have to wait until I pickup the rifle this weekend to see what spacing it has on it.

Thanks Skeeter

Pedersoli rifles often don't use standard or original sight base spacing. I've got a couple friends who own Pedersoli Rolling Block rifles and both are 1.5" spacing, the same as Stevens. Originals were all 1.937" spacing on Remington rifles.

Yeah I forgot that both my Sharps and 1886 were Pedersoli so that makes sense. I’ll check my spacing on my Shiloh and then start looking for a Baldwin base for it.
