This is of course regarding single-shot rifles and shooting.

Everything I do with single shot rifles is worthwhile. Makes me happy and keeps me busy.

OK, besides cleaning the Augean stables in a single day, I casted lots of nice bullets, shot a few good targets, polished and fitted a Swiss buttplate to an old Winchester, fitted and polished a Helm lever to an old Winchester, worked over two 92 Winchesters, put together a SAA Colt that shoots well (Yeah I know they're not single shots).

I took Wes Turners advice and had cataract surgery on my shootin' eye.  Mostly since I got a deal on an old DST high wall with no scope mounts.  Wes said he would take me out of his will if I added scope blocks.  He promised to leave me his extensive collection of once fired primers.

Not as much as I would like.

I installed my new lathe, and have it operational.  I moved my new Bridgeport mill into the back shop, wired it into the three phase converter, but haven't had time to start it up and get it working.

I finished two ballard .22 rifles.  Stocked and barreled a .22 lowall for my wife, still need to finish it.

Shot in one match, all year.

Cleared out my basement shop of a bunch of extraneous stuff, and have it fully functional for my gun and reloading work.

Purchased 350,000+ pieces of brass from the defunct Jamison brass company, and set up to sell it to users.  This has taken up about 30 hours a week of my time.

Just the past week, have rebarreled my first single shot I owned, an H&A Junior .22.  Have barreled a 45-90 high wall to use next year in with my two rolling block 45-90's.

I coached a Junior Rifle group for another year.  Had a spare .22RF target rifle and sold it to a young fellow in the group (actually his Father) with three, younger sibling brothers at a deep discount.  I figured it would get a lot of use by this family.
On occasion, we bring in the single shot .22's (ASSRA style) and let them experience something different.
Hope to continue for 2026.

Happy New Year to all here on the Forum!

II introduced 2 kids to shooting, and they both prefered the single shots to the modern stuff i took out!

I actually managed to add 3 rifles to the safe. Got a beautiful BSA MK2 22lr that quickly became one of my favorites. Not quite fitting the theme, but I bought an old friends 45-70 bpcr a few years ago for silhouette,  and it has been killing him since that he did not have a 45-70 in the safe, so I traded him a traditional hunter for a rifle i wanted for years, an m1a (have not got to shoot it much). Lastly,  just managed to snag a falling block works in 28-35 that will my my main schutzen rifle now.

For 2026, hoping to get my wife into the game.

Finally got my shop rebuilt after a bad house fire, got my master rating in sporter rifle competition with a Hopkins & Allen 922 and had a wonderful deer season with my Stevens 44.

Never as much as I planned.

Cast a hook or two and have two more folks shooting vintage single shots regularly.

Finished and submitted another article to the Journal sharing my method of making an obsolete brass- publisher mentioned potentially March/April.

Built and shot 4 single shots in various competitions, not saying they're finished yet.  There's 4 more close that may make the grade in the next couple of months.

Dipped my toes into 3 more Schuetzen events out of my area, caught that bug.  Have plans of those three and potentially three more to attend in the coming year.

Built numerous small single shot related projects and started several more.  There'll probably be a post labeled 26 Projects this year (won't be that caliber, but either that number of them or they'll coincide building in this coming year).  One more entry left to the 25 projects post...

Met a few more of the members on this forum face to face, haven't been disappointed meeting any of them.

It was a so so year for me. Always tinkering with something. Did finish up a kit Borchardt in 38-72 and a Hepburn in 22lr using an original action with a lot of help from GT and others. My one ambition for 2026 is to find and purchase an original untouched Hepburn caliber unimportant that I can afford. Missed a couple that were sold here but I am always on the lookout. It will probably be my last purchase as I have more than I can load for and shoot now. Turned 67 on the 11th of this month so I think I am going to slow down some. Health is still good hopefully I can keep it that way. Happy new year everyone!

The most exciting thing this year was I finally acquired a Pope rifle. A 32-40 on a Win. highwall with a perfect bore. This is something I have wanted for more than 50 years. I bid on several in recent auctions and came in second every time. I was able to shoot a Pope that belonged to a friend and mentor when I was 19 and was hooked and never thought I could afford one but I got a good deal so I snapped it up. Now I am busy casting bullets and getting it ready to shoot soon. I am more tickled than a 3 handed monkey.

At age 85, I shot "my best ever in my life" 200-yard .22 rimfire target, a 246-6C.  Used a Marlin Firearms Ballard #3, cast action, , put together as a 4-position competition rifle by Pete Berube.  3 lb trigger, unknown barrel, probably a Douglas.  Scope was a 12 X Unertl.  Ammo was Eley "Club Extra", a 2007 Tenex production overrun.  That stuff is as accurate as ever.

I cast a bunch of bullets and shot up most of them in load development or competition. Load development included a 40/60 WCF in a HighWall I bought in Tulsa 3 years ago. The barrel is less than stellar with pits and corrosion end to end, but distinct rifling. It shot a nice cloverleaf at 50 yards with 22g of 4198, the best of 6 loads. After 18 rounds there was zero leading, a pleasant surprise.  A bunch of bullets went down range at monthly silhouette matches at our gun club from my 32/20 lowwall. I started to gather parts for a 25 Hornet project. I bought the reamer from a guy on Accurateshooter.com, dies from CH4D(their last set!), a breechblock and firing pin from C Sharps, and some outstanding lumber from eBay. A receiver and a pistol grip lower tang with double set triggers came in a box marked “Lowwall parts” from Tulsa a year ago at a ridiculously low price that included 4 receivers, that many lower tangs, 4 or 5 tang sights, and more screws, springs, parts and pieces than I want to count. I need a barrel and probably some random small parts so I can start fitting things together. A Soule sight I bought from JKR here needed a base made to fit my Ballard Pacific so I whittled one out on the mill last week from a chunk of steel I had. I’m sure I’ve missed some other parts and pieces, but it’s been a time well spent since it all dealt with single shot rifles.
