I looked at that the other day.  A bunch of mismatched parts.  The only interesting thing about it is the rigby flat type detail on the barrel.  Some decent pictures of that might support the value, but my thought is it's more of a $700 to $800 rifle, if it's demonstrated to shoot well.

Looks to be a #2 cast rim-or-centerfire action that's been hot salt blued.  The cast actions always come out of that process with that plum color.  The barrel looks like it might have a stainless .22 liner.  The 4-finger loop lever and barrel are off of other Ballard rifles, and, of course, the stock is custom.

Somebody using it may have trouble with the extractor getting ahead of the small .22 rounds, which the normal .22 Ballard extractors were designed to prevent.  Not a bad job, otherwise, but I'd think it would have to have the name of a well-known 1920's-1940's gunsmith to have any collector value that would enhance it beyond $500-$750 or so.

    I know that it's a personal matter of aesthetics but when I see a rifle with that crappy coppery purple finish I want to vomit. Not long ago I saw an otherwise nice nickel plated Stevens tip up that someone did this to and I couldn't sleep for a week.

I have seen Krag actions turn a similar but deeper shade of purple when subjected to hot salt bluing.  It's the sort of bluing that was common 60+ years ago.  Is this a J.M. Marlin made action or is it something earlier?

The breech block looks to be all the way down but the extractor doesn’t look to be that far off the breech face?

Personal opinion. UGLY.

AZ, to nice to restore. I have a couple like that myself. But if I stumble onto the right parts, it could happen.
