Steve I would imagine that most 71 carbines will have the stock shortened like mine. I really enjoy shooting it and with the right load they can be quite accurate.

Interested in a Enfield no.4 mk1?  100% original, excellent arsenal postwar rework condition.

The top one is quite nice. Was that particular to the originals along side the bullnose muzzle cap? The 71 mauser rifles are very slick. My m71 is very enjoyable to shoot.

You know, I never really looked at the top one figuring a 71 carbine was a 71 carbine. The barrel, which is serialed to the action, is marked Spandau arsenal. The date on the right side is 1880 with a smaller mark of 1888. The stock has had the nose cap removed and is cut back to a point that leaves the hole that retains the retaining spring for the band. Interesting.
The lower one's action and as much of the stock as remains is from a Uruguayan model 1871-94 which would have been a 6.5 Daudeteau in its youth which may go to show the strength of a 71 action. The action dates are 1879 with a smaller 82. The barrel on it now is from an 8.15x46R Aydt. It currently wears a long eye relief scope clamped to the rail of the barrel. You have them a long time and you forget the details.
60 or so years ago I had a 71-84 that once I got the cosmoline off of it looked liked the day it left the arsenal. That was one slick action on that rifle. I should have kept it.

The 71/84 is quite nice but very inaccurate

I guess mine shot as good as it looked. I was shooting German GI ammo dated 1888 that came in sealed blue boxes. It was very inexpensive back then (1963) - of course, the rifle was only $19.95;-)
