With 32/40 brass being rather dear at the moment I've been using 32 Win. Spcl. as an alternative and it works just fine. Just wondering if anyone has a better suggestion.

Just run Starline 38-55 through your sizer and trim it to length.

In addition to my regular .32-40 cases I have used .32 spl. for decades. Now, it is no more seen around here than the regular spread. Thankfully already have more brass than I will ever need.

Before I had lots of .32-40 brass I had lots of .32 Win. Spl. brass I  ran through my .32-40 dies to make it. I've also used .38-55 brass, but hate to use any of that up, so I used mainly .32 Spl. then and it worked great. Usually found I seated bullets out a bit farther than with real .32-40 brass due to the shorter cases.

You might try making .32-40 from the "long" Starline .38-55 brass. Anneal the cases then run through your .32-40 sizing die in at least 3 stages, redistributing the sizing lube between stages. Using that method I loose maybe 3 cases out of a hundred that develop deep wrinkles. After sizing, trim cases to exactly match your rifle's chamber.
I made up a set of 100 for each of my .32-40 Schuetzen rifles (one OH rifle, the other BR) and have been shooting them for some years now. It works great for matches to have a set of 100 cases primed and charged with powder.

There are indeed two Americas. Simply put, it is not the haves and have nots. The two Americans are in reality divided into those who do and those who don't.
