45 acp in a H&A shotgun.

I have a 45 acp sub caliber insert for 12 gauge. Have been using it occasionally in a side by side shotgun but thought I would try it in a H&A falling block shotgun I have. I'll make a bushing for the firing pin. Sound safe to shoot?

Absolutely safe.  The difference in case size, plus low pressure of .45 ACP makes the breech thrust much less than the original blackpowder shotgun load.  The insert handles the hoop pressure of the chamber, so the original frame/barrel is irrelevant.

Thanks Dave. Was thinking the same thing.

The insert is 11 inches long and the barrel is 30 inches. I may file for a form 1 suppressor stamp and build one for the extra 19 inches of barrel. Don't want to alter the shotgun so it's probably not possible.
