There recently was a Hopkins and Allen that someone converted to  .45-70 on gunbroker. I am assuming that it was a 12 gauge action. I wondered if it was safe in 45-70.

Saw that auction. I would think not. Maybe with very light loads.

Just to clarify. Are the model numbers consistent with the caliber? A 3922 is in .22, 3925 is in .25 cal? How can you identify the models with no stamp on them?

ssdave,
the Baystate is a medium frame. I bought it off GunBroker some years back, was described as a H&A Junior. I didn't think so with the PG buttstock. It was only a couple hundred bucks so I was pleasantly surprised when it arrived. It does not have a sear adjustment screw.

Logan, the H&A model breakdown is;

9XX is the round barrel, XX being caliber.
19XX is with an octagon barrel.
29XX is with an octagon barrel and  checkered butt stock
39XX is the little schuetzen model. On these, the 25 is 25-20 SS instead of 25 RF.
There was a fellow, passed away now, Phil, who had a lot of old documentation and observed variances of H&A and Stevens single shots. I hope somebody still has his papers. He posted here a lot but I don't recall his name.

Phil Way username was ucra112. I have his xls file and have emailed it to a few people. Will try to convert it to a file type that can be posted here.

Let me know if you want a copy.
