I don’t get the Mann target. I suppose I could do some research but if I had some shots centered horizontally but at the top and bottom of the target how are they scored?

I don’t have Wes Turner’s noodle to figure these things out.

Back in the day, the only thing really standard about the Mann was the 1/2 inch width of the vertical stripes. Typically they were 20-24 inches tall. My research revealed the number of shots varied between 3, 4, & 5 depending on the club and event.
There is some good info about the Mann target in my book The Golden Age of the American Schuetzenfest. Look up Mann Target and Mann Scheib in the index for specific pages.


Read the book. If you don't have the books, buy the books. Your library is important, Jack.   Wink

I have the book. I forgot that there were actually books on paper. What a novel idea. How do you keep those things charged?

Now you understand. Books are good. 
The easiest and best way to score them is to shoot perfect scores. 20s every shot.

I worked with a guy who grew up in Kaysee Wyoming. Said he used to shoot with an old German when he was a kid. Said the old guy always shot at vertical targets like fence posts. Said he was hard on telephone poles.

My targets have circles.  I like circles. My bullets make little holes that look like circles. My groups are circles.  I usually run around in circles. That’s all I am going to say!!!

Use a round aperture in your front sight Jack. Or if you decide to whimp out, remember your scope has round lenses. 

Score the target leaded edge. You will get it eventually.

I am skeptical regarding Joe's mention of a Wyoming shooter aiming at only vertical targets. I have been in Wyoming and due to the perpetual wind, there are no vertical objects in that state. I thought Nevada had wind till I went to Wy. Upon returning home I thought of ours as but gentle zephyrs.

JD lives in Fairbanks now. When asked if he would ever move back to Kaysee, he said no. Refused to give a reason.

Joe,
Here's the hundred yard target we did, I hate wasting targets so we all shot five times for score...  The tag along pup was so excited he had to bite the corner and tear off a piece.
And yes there was some wind, a breeze if you will,  10-20.  It's easy to see which shot the wind quit for.

I'll have to fill in the heart with red to see it with iron sights. Think it will be much tougher at 100 yards. 
I'll pick a calm day when the wind doesn't blow, lol. Wish me luck.  Grin
