Star rollers?

I happened on a Star roller carbine in 44 mag recently and am toying with the purchase. I have not had it in hand so anyone have some thoughts on these guns?

Here in Germany we (hunters/shooters with the proper allowances) can purchase guns through the mail so it is not unusual to buy a gun just on the basis of the photos and description....

If your rifle is not in 7.62 and you can't hit what you are aiming at with de-linked machinegun ammo you are a pretender.

They were Spanish made, and Star is a reputable gun manufacturer with a wide range of semi auto pistols.

I have seen (on line) at least one example of a Star Rolling Block where the breech block had broken around the axis hole. Can't remember if the accident had had any serious health repercussion, but it might be a good idea to research the web for such occurences.

As for "mail purchase" go, I've just scored a "as new" (as per pictures and description, we'll see) Browning 1886, the 1992 reedition, from Egun.

Just have to wait for all the european transfert paperwork now to see how good a deal it was (or not...)

I had one in .30-30, and while it was fairly attractive, it had some issues that caused me to move it along.

The chamber was very unusual, in that there was a double shoulder! It looked like a Weatherby wannabe in some respects, but there was an undoubtedly double shoulder.

I also believe it was springing open a slight amount upon firing, as I had slight evidence of case stretching.

At first I thought I would rechamber it to .30-40 Krag, but the case stretching issue would not have been resolved, so I sold it with the admonishment that it was a problem child.

My not verifiable understanding is that some of these had barrels installed by Numrich, which might account for a great deal of the failings I encountered, but I’m not altogether certain about that.

I hated to let it go, as it was about the handiest carbine ever.
