It is a single shot after all

This single shot just showed up today.  It will be a Christmas gift for my son.  The auction site indicated a Winchester model 70 stock.  It has a windage and elevation adjustable rear sight.  There is also a safety.
What do you think it is?

I will post a full photo later

Did you get any ammo with it?

funny looking rifling, is that a half bore Jack? Diamond or square bullets?  It's novel.

Nothing in rules excludes it if you cast the bolt tip. IMO.    Question is, what caliber?

Cross bows is where our tang & receiver sights came from.  Did this one come with a cocking lever?

No cocking lever.  That is why my son is getting it. Plus he likes stuff like this.  He can probably use a cocking rope.
No ammo yet.  It was one of those "I'll just bid one last time" purchases.

So it would be legal for those 800-900-1000 yard shoots!

This was long ago, but one of the guys I shot with had a medieval rock thrower that he used to bring to the matches. It wasn't quite this big.

No cocking lever . . .  my son . . . can probably use a cocking rope.

Steel bows can sometimes require auxiliary cocking devices while the crossbow is steadied nose-down by a foot in the stirrup.  But I'm betting that your son will be able to pull back and latch the bow string all by himself, using two hands.

In any case, it's a really neat "shoulder arm"!

I am sure he will have no problem but I will probably get a rope cocking setup anyway. I may even make a lever cocker that my sore back can handle.

I have been tempted to build a trebuchet. I would use it to toss the dead moles I catch into the neighbors yard.

My home range includes an archery club. They used to be separate memberships but merged a few years back.

Do you have to use BP, or is smokeless OK in this?

I think attaching a BP based M80 firecracker to the bolt would be appropriate.
