Hi-Lux 20x Unertl copy

I've read a few posts on here about them and I might pick one up.  Can anyone tell me if they fit properly on standard Lyman style blocks made by CPA, or would I have to switch to their blocks?  From what I've read they do use a Lyman style, but I'm wondering if they'll fit properly on the bases I already have on multiple rifles.

Thanks,

Chris.

I bought one of their rear mounts to replace a broken Lischert (sp?) mount.  It fit just fine on Steve Earle's standard blocks.

I imagine CPA's blocks are the same size.  (I can even see them buying their blocks from Steve.)

I've never really trusted Smokey the Bear.  Everytime I see him I wonder what happened to the Boy Scout that was orginally wearing that hat.

I just bought one a few months ago.  I like the scope but the blocks looked like hell, so I also bought a set from Steve Earl and the scope fits fine.

It will fit on CPA blocks without any trouble. BTW if you are an ASSRA member call them and make your order. I think they are giving ASSRA members 20% off. Or at least they were Smiley

I've had one of those Hi Lux 20X for several years now and find it has better than expected elevation and windage adjustments. It's, so far, given quite repeatable settings. Also it fits on what ever "Unertl/Lyman" style mounts I have on several of my rifles.

There are indeed two Americas. Simply put, it is not the haves and have nots. The two Americans are in reality divided into those who do and those who don't.

I don't know to be honest.  It arrived today and I see no indication of where it's made which usually means China.

The mounts are a bit clunky and the scope is definitely heavier than an original but it seems good.  They must be confident of the seals because it comes coated in oil.

When the torrential rains end I'll take it out and see how clear it is.

Can you report back on how repeatable the mounts are, maybe with a box test? My dad has been looking at one because he is not a fan of Kentucky windage, and his lyman mounts aren't too repeatable in a box test

Byron Goff reviewed this scope last year (I believe) in The ASSRA Journal and he did a box test. You may want to check that out.

I'm sure you could get it from the archives.

I will give a box test a try.

I decided to take out out today and compare it to my 20x STS.   I'd say the optics are comparable or maybe a tiny bit better.  I had a little trouble getting it focused perfectly at 200m though.  I have to play with it a little more.

The only trouble I had was that the inner screw on the windage knob came loose.  I think it just wasn't tightened properly at the factory.

The cross hairs are a shade too thick, but I might appreciate that in a few more years.  They are definitely fine enough that it's easy to place then accurately, and hold off, within the 25 ring.

I do not like the markings on the scope mounts.  Normally there are lines for every 25 clicks, and longer lines at each 100 mark.  All lines are the same length, so if you shoot at varying distances you'll probably spend a lot of time counting little lines.

I've discovered one little hitch.  The reproduction scope has a larger diameter focus ring than my original Unertl.  Not a lot, but it's enough that I can't quite get to 200m without changing to taller scope blocks.
