How do you all store your rifles?

I’m interested in what kind of storage you use for your antique single shot rifles.  I have a safe with a dehumidifier.  Do you use temperature control in your Safe room or? Please let me know

I have a large safe (40 plus rifles) with a dehumidifier rod and a large can of silica gel in that safe. I also have a smaller safe without a dehumidifier rod but only a large can of silica gel. I have to be very careful with my guns since I cool my house in the summer with a swamp cooler which keeps the humidity above 50% at all times. Amazon has a number of silica gel canisters. I have never had any problems with this setup.

I live in Nevada where the relative humidity can regularly drop to single digits. I don't do a thing besides wiping things down to stop fingerprints from looking grubby. To be honest, I think I could store them out on the back porch without any worry due to weather. I used to keep a Model 94 Winchester behind the seat of my pickup in a rifle rack- for years and two different trucks, the same ol' rifle.

I live in Oregon and although its rainy, the humidity is never high in my home. My safes are in an area that's kept around 60-70 degrees all year around, and I don't use a dehumidifier or anything in the room or the safes. Never had any issues in over 40 years in this house.

I live in north Georgia in an actual rain forest. We see well over 100 inches of rain per year, and humidity in the summer is always 90% or higher.

I run a goldenrod type heater in my safes, I also have a sealed silica unit in each safe which can be plugged in to dry it out. But my best weapon is the dehumidifier in my basement gun room  and machine shop. I run it all summer, and it will keep the humidity down to 50%. I pull a gallon of water or more out of the air every day!

I'm a great believer in the old RIG grease as a rust preventative. I keep a couple small canisters with a lid, inside of which is a "RIG rag" A piece of sheep's wool into which I apply RIG before wiping down my guns.

I was very concerned about rust, but have been here about six years with no issues given the precautions listed above.  Smiley
