The picture of a Sporter in Grant's book looked so cool to me and is why I "converted" my military (Reply #1). By the way, that 38 Spcl barrel is the exact same contour as the original 43 Spanish one so I could drop the 43 right back in if I wanted to.

I asked my gunsmith to turn the blank to the same contour as the military barrel. Of course it was going to be heavier with a .357 hole instead of a .439 but that was not a problem and even desirable. For my CPA 44 1/2, I asked for the 32-40 barrel and the 22LR barrel to be the same profile (to fit the same forearm) but computed that if the 22 barrel was finished 1 1/2 inches shorter it would weigh the same.
