	Nicely engraved, perfect bore. All original including the sights.

	I've never really trusted Smokey the Bear. Everytime I see him I wonder what happened to the Boy Scout that was orginally wearing that hat.

	Very unique design. I think I would have found a better place to put the names that on the side of the breech block. Really detracts from the engraving. JMH

	Does anyone know anything about this maker or action? The barrel is also marked "Wittener" (Family name?)

	Schmalkalden is a town in the Schmalkalden-Meiningen district, in the southwest of the state of Thuringia, Germany. The firm of Pistor & Kost originated in 1745 in the German city of Schmalkalden, which was renowned for its high-quality hunting, military, and target arms. It was liquidated in 1854. The remaining premises were moved and in 1873 taken over by the brothers Simon, which lasted until 1927 when the doors closed to the oldest gun makers from the German Thuringia area.

	That would make sense. The flat on the other side of the top it says Guss-stahl (cast steel). "The Witten steelworks is one of the oldest in the Ruhr area. It was founded by Carl Ludwig Berger in 1853 and became the site of many inventions." This rifle was made in March of 1913.

	Smoke, if the release lever will work going counterclockwise and off the action instead of clockwise and traveling over the engraving the engraving might get less wear.
