Just stumbled across this in Gun Broker.  A bit over done for my taste.

Beautiful work, and wood,  but something definitely seems off, but can't put my finger on it.  Maybe it's that I'm used to that type of woodvon Kentucky rifles?

The checkering looks really fresh like it was done recently, and for whatever reason also left unsealed or unfinished on the checkering. Might improve the looks had they simply applied some finish to the raw checkering.

Looks like maple and the person checkering didn't know about ferric nitrate for coloring.  Jack, maybe the rolling part of this HW was  a 1909 feature we  don't know about... Just a thing of beauty only a mother or builder could love.  I know a little about that.

I would love to have a High Wall with a C.C. Johnson barrel in .218 Bee.  Just not one that looks like that.  Amen to the "wall hanger in a brothel" designation.  No need to keep it in the office.  Maybe on the back wall of the bar.

A person could buy it and put different wood on it, sell the wood, and have a rifle more to their liking. The dried out recoil pad is the most offensive thing to me.

The stock color reminds me of old muzzleloaders stained by applying chromium trioxide to darken their light maple stocks. It has that greenish tint wood gets when CT is left on too long without being neutralized.
