My first Ballard

Got a Ballard from RIA auction. I fell in love with the wood. Yes I know, not supposed to do that. I showed it to the Wife who said, "I'd enjoyed rubbing that stock". That was all I needed. It has been restocked, the tang sight has been re-blued. Tang sight looks to be a Marlin sight as does the front sight. Barrel is good, but worn. Suppose he shot PP bullets? The target is 4 rounds off the bench at 25 yards; the 5th shot, the low one was my offhand attempt. The trigger is LIGHT and crisp. Who needs a set trigger?

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

What cartridge?

It's a beautiful Ballard and appears to be a No. 4 Perfection model. Looks like it's not too bad of a bore to group that decent too.
Of course you know once you get one Ballard it only leads to more!

That's why I called this post MY FIRST BALLARD. It is 32-40. I have to play with picture sizing. When I make them small enough to attach, they are too small for you to see. I'll work on it. I was pleasantly pleased with the group. I plan to shoot at 50 and 100 yards tomorrow. The load was/ is 35 grains of Goex FFFG. I have some 4227, but am hesitant to use it. Don't want to stress the old girl.

With loads at BP velocities you wont hurt the forged Ballard action you have. Just keep them under 1400 fps and it will be fine.

Thank you. That's what I needed to know. I suspected that was the case, but did not KNOW. Now I do.
