Any opinion on stevens “rolling block” action rifles. I don’t know the difference between the 44 and 44 1/2. Thanks

Lots of Stevens expertise here. The 44 1/2 is the stronger action as it has a shoulder supporting the back of the breech block.  Do a Google search on “Stevens  44 1/2 vs 44 “ and look for an image showing the difference.   If you can’t find it I can post it later tonight.
Unlike some other actions, the hammer does not drop with the breech block making it harder to work with some styles of breech seaters (like the one I make).

The Stevens 44 action is a pivot block while the 44 1/2 is a true falling block  action with the block sliding in a mortise in the receiver. The 44 action is somewhat weak, suitable for rimfire cartridges and low power centerfire cartridges such as 32-20. The 44 1/2 can use much higher pressure centerfire cartridges.
