First outing with my new eyes.

You know I hate to admit that Wes Turner was right, but he did convince me to have cataract surgery in my right eye.  The weather finally cooperated today.  It has been one storm after another up until today. Conditions were pretty good but still fairly dim.  I set up a black 8" bull at 100 yds and the ISSA target at 200 yds.  I have not had a good sight picture with this 32-40 High Wall that I got at the Post Falls gun show back at the first of July.  New eyeball fixed that.
I shot these groups at 100 yds.  I still need to work on a 200 yd load as the best 5 shot group there was 2.35".
The 1" group was shot with my go to Darr designed 208 gr 3 groove spitzer which does not fully stabilize in the rifles 16 twist, but is still accurate.  I will be testing a few more bullets and doing the usual breech seating adjustments to see how well I can get it to shoot at 200 yds.  Last match at Tommy mason's I couldn't even see the red targets with iron sights.

It's amazing what new eyes will do for you! I've worn glasses since 3rd grade (I'm a whole 39 now...) and not wearing glasses for the first time after having my eyes done in June.

I have the same Darr spitzer and it JUST tips at the 200yd like. My rifle really liked my Paul jones flat nose 180 until I shot the barrel out ...

That bullet likes my 14 twist Green Mountain barrel.  I have shot a couple of 25s in matches with it.  It also works well in a 12.5 twist Douglas barrel.  I have an 8 groove barrel, unmarked 16 twist (maybe a Bresein?) and it stabilizes in it.

Good eyes, good excuse to shoot at Raton next summer.
Always a lot of neat single shot rifles and related stuff on the tables there.

Park your car, or your jet at my house and I'll take you the rest of the way. All you have to do is sit there and look perty.

Good shooten Jack. Are you going to get the other eye done.

I got both of mine done but, after I quit shooting. It made a big difference in my night vision.

I can just see you and Joe "Cruisin' Down the Highway" (In your find machine). Hope you both get there alive Wink

The eye doc says my left eye doesn’t  qualify yet. So unless I want to pay for the surgery myseff I will just have to put up with having a strong corrective lens for my left eye and a mild trader prescription for my right.  They want to wait for the right eye to stabilize before they give my a new prescription. I fug out my first ever pair of glasses from over 30 years ago and they work fine for my right eye.

Hello Jack,

Glad to see your new eye is working for you.

I sure wouldn't pass up Wes Turner's offer. Heading down the highway in that extra-large American car with the 8-track tape playing. You and Buddy sharing a bag of Slim Jim dog treats, heading to the known center of the shooting universe. No doubt in my mind it would be a very memorable trip.

Cheers
Rick

I can relate. Having a fresh eyeball is like getting a new lease on life.

Now if only the docs could also give me a new trigger finger that knows when to touch off the shot.

I will have to give it a long think. A couple of days in a car with Joe. He might just shoot me for the hell of it.
