Looking for information

About this Borchardt rifle. Who owned it and who built it. Has a thumb rest on the right side of the grip. Last known owner was Mike Gish. Think Mike was located in Colorado.

Neat looking rifle who ever built it. Any more info on it? Caliber maybe?

It is a neat rifle. Standard 32-40 chamber, 6 groove, 16 inch left hand twist. No name on the barrel. Stock appears to be a one off.

Joe, Information from Mike: He bought this rifle and a .17 caliber 44 1/2 from Dick Binger. Both looked to be the same hand.
Binger sold the rifles on consignment from the widow of a gunsmith in the Northeast. No other info.
Have seen a classified ad for these rifles in an older Single Shot Journal but can't find it now.
Mike messed up the chamber with a throating reamer. I set the barrel back about 3/4" and rechambered it.
Borchardt has about the nicest single trigger I have seen. The .17 is a tack driver The gunsmith knew what he was doing.

Thanks Chuck. I did contact Dick Binger but as I remember he either didn't recall the rifle or the gunsmith.

Super nice trigger for sure. You did a good job on the chamber, Chuck as it is perty darn accurate. 248 is the best I've done with it so far. Those two missing centers depend on alignment of the moon and stars and a little luck.

Looks like a proper target rifle now with the sights installed. Used a CPA sight mount for the diopter.

Hoping someone in the NE will see the rifle here and post. Long shot but worth trying. And I get to post pictures.  Tongue

Ballards may be weaker,

That's a dandy Joe! Always thought the Borchardt actions were pretty neat. I love the stock!

Wish Mike was here to see those targets. He could never get it to shoot that well.

Think it can do better, Chuck, Still getting some vertical. Going to try the sled setup. Wished I had a range with no wind. Never been a fan of the sled but the one shown made by Jerry Vanwey is so nicely made I have to give it a try. Maybe free recoil is the answer.

The rifle is slippery on the bags so takes a lot of concentration to keep still. The plate and sled should put a halt to that problem. Mike and I used to trade PMs back and forth. I found him to be one heck of a good guy.

barrel needs to be slugged and measured. Might need lapping.

I'll betcha my Borchardt stock has more character than your Borchardt one off Wink
Made from fine american walnut with dished check rest on the left side and a finely crafted thumb rest on the right.  The stock also includes an attached ebony pistol grip which has all the earmarks of the gifted brother of Harlow Parkenfarker, Snod.  His work has been considered to be a notch better than those rifles built by Zischang and Axel Peterson. He also modified the butt pad for easy access to the stock bolt hole.

Lot of charactor there. You win OW.

If your stock could talk, not sure I want to hear...  Undecided

Probably done by two different people. The first one that built the stock and put the thumb rest on looks like he knew what he was doing. Wonder who it could have been? The second one was some nimrod that thought he knew what he was doing but didn't. Like you say if they could only talk. Smiley
