Weird removable lower prong

A friend gave me this removable lower prong this morning at the gun show! Not sure if it's homemade, and professionally made? Anyone ever seen anything like it?

It attaches to the underside of a buttstock with 4 screws, and has an alignment pin and thumb knob to thread it onto the base when you want a lower prong.

No I've never seen one before but suspected they were used. Always wondered about this hole close to the butt on Mike Gish's Borchardt. Has a steel ring at the top of the hole and wear marks like something was attached at that point. Hook or leveling plate for BR? To far back for a sling swivel and no sling swivel hole on the forestock.

That's a neat little device Vall. Kind of a rough mounting system.

Joe, I think when the prong was removed the flat part of the base would aid in benchrest shooting too.
The mounting holes for the base are countersunk for flathead wood screws so the head would sit flush and not be above the metal surface.

Interesting Vall. Hadn't thought of that. Never been real interested in strictly BR rifles as this Borchardt is. Maybe I should make something up so I can use it OH.

Whomever made your hook was talented. Looks factory made. My guess is Ideal.

Just sent a PM to Chuckster about the Gish mystery hole.

It does look professionally made and came from my friend's father inlaw who passed maybe 20 years ago. He had a bunch of single shot rifles made by famous name makers.

Answered Joe's PM. Don't remember the hole. Old age and memory.

It looks less than ideal to me.

Sorry,  I can never let a setup like that pass without a smartass comment.
