What model Stevens is This?

It’s a neat tip down in 25-20 Single Shot. It isn’t marked as to model. Just the company name and address. It’s chambered in 25-20 Single Shot.  That’s Nuckel you see on the frame and buttplate.  Thanks in advance.

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

I believe that's a Stevens Tip Up #7 Premier since it has a forearm. Tough to say without seeing it in hand.

My best guess is the rifle is a number 1 sporting rifle.  It appears that someone has added a forearm to the rifle as it doesn't look correctly shaped for a factory made one. A number 7 premier rifle typically would have a Swiss buttplate.

If you have access to the rifle, the model is generally stamped on the lower tang behind the trigger. Sometimes on the barrel by the serial number.

I agree the forearm doesn’t look right. Could be a clumsy replacement.

What made the difference in models was mostly sights. What’s on that rifle don’t look like what would come on the premier models

I agree that the forearm is not factory, but whether it's a replacement or a user add-on is guesswork.  Eliminate the forearm and you've most likely got a No. 1 model - i.e, the most basic one.

One thing for certain, it’s not a “hunters pet”.

I bid on a tip up 15 years back at an auction that was nowhere this complete; a definite project gun. When I realized it was way over its possible value I stopped bidding and let the other guy have it. I learned some very valuable lessons at that auction, fortunately before they cost me a bunch of money.
