FS - Hepburn Grade A Match .38-55 with an issue

Remington Hepburn Grade A Match .38-55 with 30-inch barrel and double-set triggers. Gun is all original with all matching serial numbers. As can be seen in the photos there are numerous dings in the stocks but no chips or cracks and the original finish is in very good condition. The sights are original to the gun and are in very good condition, with the spirit level bubble still present in the front sight. Based on the serial number, 20XX, the gun was manufactured in the 1880s, so is an antique. Interestingly, the gun has the early-style butt plate, but it has the later “Remington Arms Co. Ilion, N.Y.” roll stamp on the barrel and a late pattern forearm.  Now for the bad news, there is a ring-bulge visible in the barrel about five inches from the breech end. The bulge does not show on the outside of the barrel.  I purchased this at auction to use as a target rifle, but with the bulge, it is a no-go and I have too many other projects to install a liner or rebarrel it. $2,400 plus shipping and insurance.

JHM,

Isn’t this out of your wheelhouse? It won’t be original after a new barrel or re-bore. I keep an eye out for you.

With the serial number in the 2000 range, it had to have been made by E. Rem. & Sons before 1886. Remington Arms may have replaced the barrel back in the day.

Logan...

Yes a bit but had I seen it first I would have purchased it and taken a chance on the barrel. Thanks for thinking of me and yes keep an eye out for me.
