New Braunfels Schuetzen shooting

As I was re-reading the article on the New Braunfels Schuetzen Verein in this recent ASSRA journal issue I noticed in one of the pictures the standing shooting but from a rest. I'm curious how they started shooting in this style. Anyone have more insight?

In Wolfgang Finze's book on the Wehrmanngewehr he mentions that in Berlin and Northern Germany that shooting standing with a rest  'aufgelegt schiessen' was popular. The  town of Braunfels is more in central-west Germany so I'm wondering if the New Braunfel immigrants brought this same style from the old country or if it's something they adopted once in the States.

Another curious observation from the photos is that the hook on the hooked-butt plate is on the TOP on several of the rifles. I guess when you're resting the muzzle on a rest having a lower hook isn't helpful?

Also in looking them up I found a couple Youtube videos from the New Braunfels verein and another similar verein in Texas. They are a fun watch:

I don't recognize a lot of these models of rifles. If anyone can ID them for me I'd appreciate it too.
Thanks

I like that method of shooting 'sort of' offhand.  At Spokane the target frames will never stay still long enough for me to score well.

I've seen and handled a few rifles with a stop on the bottom of the barrel. All from Europe. I have a Swiss percussion Schuetzen style rifle with a stop built into the entry pipe.
Seems I've seen old illustrations of the style of shooting in period prints. Did shooters also shoot from a peg on a post?

My memory may be afflicted.  Undecided

Maybe something like this?

Not what I was thinking. Neat painting though. Seems I remember shooters standing with their rifle barrels resting on a peg sticking out from a post.

It’s been a long time but have shot with the New Braunfels club.   Video on the UTube shows the standing position well. The shooters put the gun on the clubs built in rest. It’s slanted with notches that accommodate different heights. Gun has a stop on the muzzle and it’s hook is on the buttstock top. Shooter leans against the rifle.

It’s a very secure position. I used my CPA that’s BPS rule stocked muzzle simply rested, could not lean into it, it’s not as secure. My scores reflected the difference

The New Braunfels club is a “must” stop anyone interested in pure Schuetzen as shot in Europe. Wonderful facility with very accommodating members.
